learning about long the hcg weight loss program will go for quickest weight cut

By John D Greene

One of the most prevalent questions for those who inquire about the hCG diet is, "How long do I have to be on this diet?" The hCG diet can last on average, 28 to 40 days depending on the individual. The important thing to remember is that during this time, the client will learn appropriate nutritional habits that will last a lifetime and allow you to maintain the weight lost indefinitely

To be succinct, the diet usually continues for four to twelve weeks. Again, this number varies, based upon one's personal goals. Those who have considerable weight to lose will opt to stay on longer. There have been patients on the diet for longer periods reporting as much as a 96-pound loss of weight.

In order to understand the connotation of the meaning behind 4 or 12 weeks of dieting, one should know what the diet consists of. The hCG diet was discovered in the 1950s, by Doctor A.T.W. Simeons. What happened was that Dr. Simeons noted that malnourished and unhealthy women delivered babies that were in all ways normal, and more remarkably, these, newborns were born healthy.

He thus concluded that a hormone found to be prevalent in the placenta, increased levels during pregnancy, triggering the mother's stored fat nutrients, carbohydrates, and sugars to nourish the baby during gestation. Furthermore, he observed no marked loss of the mother's muscle tissue.

Dr. Simeons formulated a diet that consisted of 500 calories consumed daily, accompanied by injections of the hormone. A natural question is what will happen if someone limits his or her caloric intake to 500 calories a day without the assistance of the hormone. First, simply limiting calories is not enough. The diet must be nutritious, with sugars and starches removed. After a period, it is important to add sugars and starches back to the regular diet.

During these first 3 weeks, the patient experiences impressive loss of weight. Many patients report losses of 1 to 3 pounds per day. This will vary, based upon the total amount of weight the patient has to lose. Generally, the benefits of the hCG diet is hCG helps to ease side effect from low caloric intake, the hormone helps the patient, by aiding in decreased appetite, and finally, the hCG injections helps the body to release nutrients from fat cells, and halts the body's tendency to get stored energy from muscle mass.

The nutrients that are let loose from the excess fat cells, is released into the bloodstream and utilized as nutrients. Thus, even thought the patient's caloric intake is only 500 calories, the nutrient from these stored fats can be as high as 2000 calories a day, hence, the rapid loss of weight. The patients generally report a loss of appetite. The net result is that weight loss happens because of the depletion and absorption of the fat cells. If the patient adheres to the protocol, the results are a significant drop in weight over the three week period.

Without hCG, one can assume a low calorie diet, however, such dieting will cause a change in the body's metabolic rate, but it will slow down the metabolism, not speed it up, thus causing the body to store fat cells instead of burn them, causing weight loss to stop.

The hCG injection protocol consists of basically 4 phases. The first two phases cover a period of about three weeks and includes daily injections of hCG. Phases 3 and 4 do not contain injections, but are critical in establishing the maintenance of the lost weight. Phases 3 and 4, include the reintroduction of sugars and starches into the diet, for a regular lifetime of normal healthy eating. Those who have extreme amounts of weight to lose, may start the process over again. In summary, the hCG diet has a very specific protocol, however, it can be tailored depending on a patient's weight and health conditions. Thus, it is vital that a physician prescribe the injection and monitor the patient's progress.
