Quick Tips for Eating a Low Carb Diet

By James Steele

More people are carb conscious due to the popularity of the Atkins diet and South Beach. Carbohydrates usually get the blame when someone is having weight problems. However, it's important to realize that not all carbs are bad. Some are very good. There is a reason athletes often eat carbohydrate rich foods before they have to perform. Carbohydrates, the good kind, give you energy! Cutting out all carbs is not healthy, regardless of what the Atkins books tell you. It is to eat a low carb diet-a low carb diet that only includes the good carbs. The following tips will help you do just that.

Eggs are a great food for people on low carb diets. People often associate breakfast with foods that are fatty and high in carbohydrates. Bacon, for example, is something that most people would rather not give up. A good breakfast, however, can be as simple as eggs and fruit juice. Eggs are a great substitute for high carb foods provided you don't prepare them with high carb cheese or other additives. You can make great omelets and other foods by adding fresh veggies. Maintain your natural food diet. You will have greater success with your low carb diet by avoiding prepackaged alternatives. Splenda and "low carb nutrient bars" are not all they are crakced up to be, avoid them. They are poor alternatives to using healthy and natural foods to cure your carb cravings. Typically these substitutes do little more than amp up your cravings. Look to natural foods to care for the needs of your body. these bars do nothing for the body. Peanuts, the way to go for curbing the candy bar craving. This way you get a payday without the nugget.

Many people assume the best part of a low carb diet is getting to eat lots of meat. While this is partly true-meat is, after all, carb free (for the most part)-it is also true that you can't eat just any old cut of meat. There are unhealthy elements to meat, such as fat. So, when making your meals, you need to choose lean meats. So, when buying the beef, chicken, and fish mentioned earlier, make sure you are getting lean cuts. When you limit the fat in your meat dishes, you will feel even better.

Another thing you can do to cut carbs is to use coconut flour. Coconut flour, which is low in carbs, can be used in place of white and wheat flour. Using coconut flour allows you to still enjoy pancakes and other baked goods that use flour. Refined flour is terrible for people on a low carb diet. But coconut flour is an excellent substitute. Another bonus is coconut is a nutrient rich food. Coconut water is used as a popular health drink. Coconut flour is a great way to enjoy regular breakfast foods without having to worry about the carbs.

For whatever reason, people think they have to eat boring food if they want to go low carb. They also think that they will have to give up the foods and snacks that they love. But as we've already mentioned, a low carb diet is very similar to a well balanced diet. You would be surprised by how many low carb alternatives there are to high carb foods. Many people are happy when they find that following a low carb diet won't affect their lives much at all. Use these tips to help you and you will be fine.
